Breen welcomes Cityjet expansion at Shannon Airport.

Fine Gael’s Deputy Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs and Clare. T.D. Pat Breen has today (Monday) welcomed the news that Cityjet is to increase its daily services and double its capacity from Shannon Airport.

“This news is a vote of confidence in Shannon Airport and I am delighted that Cityjet has decided to follow up on their commitment to expand and increase their services at Shannon Airport which their CEO, Geoffrey O’Byrne-White confirmed was under active consideration when I questioned him on his future plans for Shannon Airport when he appeared before the Dail’s Transport Committee last July.”

“The availability of a 95-seater aircraft will allow for the doubling of capacity to and from Paris to this Region while basing an aircraft overnight will facilitate an early morning departure at 6.30 a.m. which will improve the options for the business traveller and connectivity to the region. It will also allow Tour Groups to Group Book travel to this Region.”

“This is very positive news for Shannon Airport in the current climate of cutbacks and comes hot on the heels of the decision by Aer Lingus to reinstate their Shannon/Heathrow Service also from March next.”

“Efforts must now be refocused to market these services. Fine Gael has proposed that a dedicated and ring-fenced marketing budget should be put in place to market Shannon Airport and this must now be a priority for Government.”

“Today’s news shows that City Jet is committed to Shannon Airport and I hope that they will look at developing other routes from Shannon in the future and in this regard I will be continuing in my efforts to encourage them to operate a London-City Service.”
