Breen welcomes opening of Second Swine Flu Vaccination Centre

November 30th, 2009 - Pat Breen

Fine Gael’s Deputy Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs and Clare T.D. Pat Breen has today welcomed the news that the HSE have agreed to open a Second Swine Flu Vaccination Centre in the County.

The Second Clinic which will open from today, Monday, 30th November 2009 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Ennis will deal specifically with the over 65’s in the County.

“Over the past number of weeks I have received numerous calls from Elderly constituents who were very anxious to receive the Swine Flu vaccination, but who are infirm and simply could wait in a queue for any extended period. One Elderly Lady who has an underlying medical condition had travelled from West Clare into Ennis with her husband over two weeks ago, however, when she arrived, her husband was advised that she could be waiting for around three hours. She would not be able to endure this wait, so they had to travel home again.”

“I understand that the HSE are now operating this Clinic by appointment only, which should help to reduce the length of waiting times, but, the addition of a second clinic specially for the over 65’s should alleviate the difficulties for people like this elderly lady from West Clare.”

“I understand, also, that a number of GP’s in the County have not yet signed up to administer the vaccine, and I have sought clarity from Minister Harney, regarding same, as I believe it is vitally important that people who wish to avail of the vaccine, and who live in rural isolated areas, should be facilitated as much as possible, by visiting their own GP.”
