Fine Gael’s Deputy Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs and Clare T.D. Pat Breen has today warmly congratulated his Fianna Fail Constituency Colleague Deputy Tony Killeen on his promotion to the position of Minister for Defence.

“I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere congratulations to Tony Killeen T.D. on his promotion from the position of Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture and Food to serve as Minister for Defence.”

“The past number of years has been very difficult for Tony and his family and I am delighted to see him return to full health. Today is a great day for Tony, Lily and his children and personally I would like to wish every success in his new position.”

“Clare traditionally held a seat at the Cabinet table and for too long in recent years we have been excluded. Given County Clare’s strategic importance with Shannon International Airport on our doorstep, there are a number of issues which need to be addressed in this County, including, Shannon Airport, unemployment and the underinvestment in our Health Services, Schools, and Roads infrastructure. At a time when there are scare financial resources in this Country, it is vital to have a Clare voice sitting around the cabinet table when those scare resources are being shared out.”
