carrigoran20130408-055Clare T.D and Chairman of the Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs & Trade Pat Breen has welcomed the commitment in the HSE West Service Plan for 2013 to fund the provision of 5,000 day care places for older people and in particular the HSE’s support for the provision of day care services at the new day centre at Carrigoran House in Newmarket on Fergus.

“This Governments policy is to support older people to live in dignity and independence in their own homes and communities for as long as possible by targeting supports to meet their needs and the provision of this additional funding is a testament to our commitment to support this policy. I particularly welcome the fact that the HSE will now provide funding for the new day care facility at Carrigoran House in Newmarket on Fergus and support the enhancement of services at the Clarecastle Day Centre.”

As well as providing a huge social interaction value, the availability of day care facilities is great source of comfort for families given that they know that their loved one is looked after in a safe environment for a number of hours during the day. The new facility in Carrigoran is a state of art facility which will provide a comprehensive range of supports including a hot meal for the older people who will attending the services there. The opening of the Day Centre in Newmarket on Fergus will be of particular benefit to people living in the catchment area of Newmarket on Fergus, Sixmilebridge, Shannon where there is currently a waiting list to access day care services.”

Late last year, Carrigoran House also received funding through the Department of Health and in conjunction with the National Lottery towards the development of a satellite catering service for this new facility.

The Minister for Health Dr James Reilly T.D. will officially open the Carrigoran Day Centre in the coming weeks and the President of Ireland Michael D Higgins will visit there in early May.

“The commitment to fund the provision of day care facilities is a testament to this Government’s strong support for improved health services for the people of County Clare
