Fine Gael Clare TD and Chairman of the Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade, Pat Breen, has warmly welcomed the appointment of his former schoolmate, Eamonn Meehan, as the new Executive Director of Trócaire. Eamonn Meehan will replace Justice Kilcullen, who is due to retire in October.
“I was delighted to hear the news this morning that Kilmaley native, Eamonn Meehan, has been appointed Executive Director of Trocaire. I know Eamonn well as we went to school together in St. Flannan’s College in Ennis.
“Eamonn brings a wealth of experience to his new role having served as Deputy Director of the organisation since 2002. His work has brought him to some of the poorest areas in the world, such as South Africa, Mozambique, Angola, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
“As Chairman of the Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade, I have had the opportunity to see the work initiated by Trócaire in the areas of humanitarian rights and poverty reduction. I am strong supporter of Trocaire’s long term development programmes and I am very much aware of the enormous contribution the charity makes in improving the lives of some of the poorest people in the world.
“I am very much looking forward to working closely with Eamonn in continuing to raise awareness about these issues.”
