The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade will tomorrow be briefed on the work of Passport Office. Joseph Nugent, Director of Passport Services at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, will address the Committee.
2012 and 2013 were record years for the Passport service, with over 630,000 passports issued for each year. This is up from the figure of 380,000 passports issued in the year 2000.
Chairman of the Committee Pat Breen TD says: ““The meeting with Mr Nugent presents the Committee with an opportunity to assess current trends in passport applications. The work of the Office is seasonal, with almost half of passports applications received between April and July. This irregular workflow presents a challenge and we look forward to hearing from Mr Nugent on steps taken in his Office since the delays during the summer peaks in 2010 and 2011.”
The meeting takes place tomorrow Wednesday 29 January at 2:30 pm in Committee Room 1, LH 2000. Committee proceedings can be followed live here: http://www.oireachtas.ie/parliament/watchlisten/
