Clare T.D. and Chairman of the Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade Pat Breen T.D. has described Donald Trump’s investment in the Doonbeg Lodge and Golf Resort as a major vote of confidence in Shannon Airport and in West Clare.
“When the 5 Star Doonbeg Lodge and Golf Resort went into receivership I was very confident that an investor would be found to take over the facility given its reputation as one of Europe’s premier Golfing destinations. A testament to its reputation is the fact that it was voted European Golf Resort of the year in 2010 and in 2012 it was ranked as the 3rd best course in Europe.
The facility which opened in 2002 as well as boasting a top class golf course, provides top class accommodation and amenities, and has a number of restaurants and bars on site and is host to numerous weddings and banquets during the summer. At its peak it employs up to 230 people and also provides significant indirect employment in the area. Securing this investment copperfastens these jobs which is very good news for the entire area.
Clearly Donald Trump has identified the enormous potential that exists in Doonbeg and I understand that he plans to expand and grow the business there which will further boost job creation in West Clare.
Today’s news is not just a vote of confidence in the Doonbeg Facility but it is also a vote of confidence in Ireland’s recovering economy with the Trump Family citing this as one of the main reasons for their decision.
The improved connectivity from Shannon Airport to the United States will also play a critical role in the expansion of the Trump development in Doonbeg, providing further valuable traffic for Shannon Airport and creating an even greater demand for these year round transatlantic services.
Donald Trump’s decision to invest in the Doonbeg Lodge and Golf Course is very welcome and I wish him well and look forward to a bright future for the Trump International Golf Links Ireland Development in West Clare.”
