Phase 1 Extension at Regina House in Kilrush Completed - BREEN

March 21st, 2014 - Pat Breen

Chairman of the Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade Pat Breen has welcomed the completion of the phase 1 extension to Regina House in Kilrush, stating that the modernised accommodation greatly enhances the Nursing Home and bolsters community based nursing care support for older people in the West Clare Area.

“I am delighted that phase 1 of this extension has now been completed and I understand that patients will begin transferring into their new accommodation in the coming weeks. I had the opportunity to see the new facility for myself when I visited Regina House recently and the new accommodation is a wonderful addition to the Nursing Home. I have also invited the Minister for Health Dr James Reilly T.D. to come down and visit Regina House to see the facility for himself.
This state of the art extension has been constructed in line with HIQA standards and includes five twin rooms and 2 single rooms all with en-suites, a resident’s sitting room, a new centralised nurse’s stations and adjacent clinical room. It is also located adjacent to the Day Care Centre improving access for residents to the various day care services.

The €750,000 invested in this project is very good value for money and I would like to pay to tribute to the HSE, the person in charge Anne McNamara, her nursing and ancillary staff, the Board of Regina House, the Contractor and his staff and to the local Support Group for their hard work in developing this project.
Now that Phase 1 is completed, I am lobbying intensely to get phase 2 off the ground. Regina House has capacity for 30 residents and there is significant demand for respite care services in the areas.

The construction of phase 2 would ensure the modernisation of all the current accommodation, making the entire Nursing Home a nicer environment for all of the residents, improving the community nursing services available to older people in the West Clare area and securing the employment for the staff working there.
