Clare T.D. and Chairman of the Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade has welcomed the news that an additional €483,002 in funding is being provided for additional road maintenance in Clare.

This funding is being provided as part of the Government’s €43 million stimulus funding which has been announced by the Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar T.D. and which will allow local authorities and the National Roads Authority to enhance their road maintenance and improvement work programmes in 2014. for the Community Involvement Scheme brings total funding for this scheme to €12.4 million this year. Earlier this year local authorities were invited to make submissions for funding for a new CIS programme this year. The deadline for submission was the 2nd of May and 465 schemes across 25 counties have been approved for funding.

Welcoming the news, Deputy Breen said that “There was a very high uptake for the CIS here in Clare last year and I was very anxious to see the Scheme continued.

This funding will be spent across Clare through the Local Authority. Clare County Council has been allocated €483,002 for the community involvement scheme and this will allow the Local Authority to work with the local communities to repair lightly-used and isolated roads.

By allowing local communities to get involved in this way, we can ensure that roads which may have been ignored will get the attention they need, which is good news for road users especially in our rural areas.”
