Clare T.D. and Chairman of the Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade Pat Breen T.D. has welcomed the news that a third mainstream teacher has been
approved for Moyasta National School.
This announcement was made following a meeting of the Primary Staffing Appeals Board to review appeals
from Primary Schools in relation to their staffing allocations.
“I was very happy to support the Schools appeal and I am very pleased that their case has been upheld on the basis of its projected increase in enrolments for the coming school year. This is great news for the teachers, parents and the local community who have been anxiously waiting for news.
Moyasta National School was a two teacher school where four different programmes are delivered to four different classes in each of its two classrooms and the provision of this third mainstream teacher will help to improve the environment for the delivery of education to the pupils there.
The pupil teacher ratio for small schools is posing a problem for many of our rural schools and I will be hoping that the Department of Education and Skills will review this criteria and take account of population dynamics which fluctuate from time to time, particularly in our rural communities.
