31 Groups across Clare to benefit from Funding - BREEN

December 4th, 2014 - Pat Breen

Clare T.D and Chairman of the Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade Pat Breen T.D has welcomed the allocations made to Groups across Clare under the National Grant Scheme for Sport and Physical Activity for Older People 2014 which were announced by the Minister for Sport Michael Ring T.D. this morning.

“€9,520 has been allocated to 31 Groups across Clare under the National Grant Scheme for Sport and Physical Activity for Older People 2014. These grants allow people to decide for themselves how to be more active. They make a huge contribution to improving the physical, mental and social well-being of older people throughout the country. I am well aware of the huge potential of sport and physical activity to contribute to the development of a healthier society and of the vital role which sport plays in local communities throughout Ireland.

Now in its 14th year, The National Grant Scheme for Sport and Physical Activity for Older People, so far, has awarded over €4.2 million in nearly 10,000 grants. The Irish Sports Council allocated over €600,000 from its 2014 budget to the Go for Life Programme to help increase the participation of older people in recreational sport and physical activity.

This National Grant Scheme for Sport and Physical Activity for Older People is one element of the extensive Go for Life Programme which has resulted from this allocation. This year’s funding will be allocated to groups and clubs all over Ireland and I am very pleased to see 31 Groups across County Clare benefitting from the Scheme.”
