Clare T.D. and Chairman of the Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade has welcomed the announcement of 70 new nursing appointments in the UL Hospital Group.
“The hiring of 70 new nurses at the UL Hospital Group will go a long way towards alleviating the pressure for patients and staff at all three hospitals in our Region, especially in the hospitals in Ennis and Limerick.
The recruitment ban which was introduced in the health service back in 2009 had posed serious challenges for the hospitals and their staff and I have consistently highlighted the impact that it was having for the delivery of frontline services.
I am now hopeful that these additional posts will do a lot to alleviate the persistent overcrowding problem in the Region and in particular at the UL Hospital in Limerick.
I would urge the HSE to fast track the filling of these positions in order that these nurses can be rostered on duty as soon as possible in order to help the current staff who are working in very challenging conditions.”
