The Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs will convene tomorrow to discuss the ongoing refugee and migrant crisis.
Appearing before the Committee will be:
• Barry Andrews, CEO, GOAL;
• Sophie Magennis, Head of Office, UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) Ireland.
Committee Chair, Pat Breen TD, says: “As thousands of people continue to arrive on Europe’s southern and eastern shores seeking refuge from ongoing conflicts, it is incumbent upon us as legislators to address this migration crisis as a matter of urgency.”
“At tomorrow’s meeting the Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade will explore the root causes of the crisis, as well as engaging with GOAL and the UNHCR on the ongoing humanitarian crisis.”
“Migrants and refugees continue to put their lives at risk crossing dangerous seas. At tomorrow’s meeting, we will address the myriad issues underlying the migration crisis and will seek constructive engagement from GOAL and the UNHCR – two groups closely involved in assisting in the efforts to assist refugees and migrants as they attempt to reach Europe.”
The meeting will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, 23rd September in Committee Room 3 at 10am.
