Breen welcomes €11,000 Environmental funding for local Clare groups

October 12th, 2015 - Pat Breen

Clare Deputy and Chair of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade Pat Breen T.D. has welcomed the allocation of almost €11,000 to Clare organisations, through the Department of the Environment Partnership Fund.

“Under the 2015 Local Agenda 21 Environmental Partnership Fund, 28 projects have been granted money to carry out works which promote sustainable development by small scale, non-profit environmental local organisations.

“The Environmental Partnership Fund assists the efforts of local communities here in Clare who are working hard to make a real difference to their environment.

“Some of the successful applicants include Cooraclare Development Association to replace an area of Japanese Knotweed with a community fruit garden and promote biodiversity, Doolin Tidy Towns also to eradicate Japanese Knotweed from Aille river running; the tSean Dún Residents in Ennis to mask a concrete structure in a living green cover creating a biodiverse space and source of food for pollinators and increase carbon sink potential and Connolly Tidy Village to assist young people connect with the environment by developing and creating information boards on flora and fauna in the bog.”

“The Local Agenda 21 scheme is focussed on assisting local small scale environmental projects and such projects will receive support from this year’s funding.

“Local groups like those who have been successful in securing this funding, are drivers of development and growth in local communities. It is these types of organisations that make Clare a better place to live, to raise a family and to work.

“Increasing environmental awareness is vital in all parts of Ireland and in particular among young people. I am particularly pleased that many of the successful projects are those that work with young people and I wish them every success with their projects.”
