Clare T.D. and Chair of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade Pat Breen has said that the progression of a new Community School in Ennistymon is warranted and he is hopeful that the project will get the green light when the new Five Year School Building Plan is published shortly.
“The case for a new Community College in Ennistymon has been well made. The condition of the 3 existing secondary schools is no longer fit for purpose and they need refurbishment. Late last year, I raised the conditions at the CBS Secondary School in the town in the Dail and an interim school accommodation was put in place until a new Community College is built.
On a regular basis students have to travel between the schools as the schools work together to provide a broad curriculum. Significant time is lost during the day as a result not to mention the difficulties posed for the students during inclement weather conditions and the health and safety implications.
The development of a new Community School is now a priority. The staff, boards of management, their patrons and the Ennistymon community has been working towards the amalgamation for years. A site has been secured for the new building and I would now urge the Minister for Education and Skills Jan O’Sullivan T.D. to include the project in the Five Year School Building Plan, in order that the provision of the New Community School can be progressed. “
