Measures will help to alleviate social housing shortage
Clare T.D and Chairman of the Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade Pat Breen has welcomed the Government’s announcement of a €15 million national investment in social housing. This measure will make 22 vacant houses available for use in County Clare.

“There is a housing shortage across the country. Families in Clare are in need of homes. This significant investment will make a huge difference to people in the area.

“Empty houses regularly attract anti-social behaviour; they are unsightly and negatively impact local areas. We want to bring new life into these properties and to turn them into homes once again.

“This investment will not only benefit the individual families who are allocated a new property but it will enhance the community. It is good news for builders and good news for small businesses.

“This €15 million national investment is just one of a number of measures being introduced by the Government to deal with public housing issues. €68 million will be invested nationally to build 449 new homes for families and €30 million will be spent in 2014 to upgrade the energy efficiency of the least well insulated local authority homes.”
