Aer Lingus US Advertising Campaign is geared at developing Services into Dublin – BREEN.

September 17th, 2009 - Pat Breen

Fine Gael’s Deputy Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs and Clare T.D. Pat Breen has once again taken issue with Aer Lingus Advertising Strategy. Deputy Breen claims that once again a US Advertising Campaign is geared at developing services in and out of Dublin to the detriment of Shannon Airport and this Region.

“At the beginning of this month Aer Lingus advertised a US Sale offering sale flights to Boston, Chicago, New York and Orlando, however, when you went on to their website anybody wishing to book a flight from Shannon would have been under the impression that they were only available from Dublin.”

“The latest “Bag a Deal to the US” is no different and it appears that the Airline’s US Advertising Campaign is designed to grow their current long-haul operations into Dublin Airport which is to the detriment of Shannon Airport and this Region.”

“Already the Chairman Colm Barrington has confirmed that they will not use the new state of the art US Customs and Border Protection facility at Shannon and neither have they clarified their future plans for their US services out of Shannon.”

“Their failure to avail of the US Customs Pre Clearance facility is extraordinary. I have received numerous complimentary comments from passengers who have travelled on US carriers Delta, Continental and US Airways from Shannon and were able to avail of the facility. They are very loud in the praise of the facility and the time they have saved on arrival in the United States. The reality is that Aer Lingus Shannon/US passengers are losing out.”

“I have written today to Enda Corneille, Commercial Director at Aer Lingus outlining my concerns regarding their US Advertising Campaigns and urging him to address this anti-Shannon bias in future Adverts.”
