Airlines Ripping – off Irish Soccer Supporters – BREEN

October 20th, 2009 - Pat Breen

Fine Gael’s Deputy Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs and Clare T.D. Pat Breen accused Irish Airlines Ryanair and Aer Lingus of ripping off Irish Soccer Supporters. Shortly after Ireland was drawn against France in the World Cup Qualifier both Ryanair and Aer Lingus have hiked their prices to Paris.

“No sooner had the draw been made for Ireland’s World Cup Qualifier against France when both Ryanair and Are Lingus hiked the cost of travel to Paris on the 18th of November next.
“For those interested in travelling to the game from Shannon Airport with Ryanair to Paris Beauvais the trip could cost around €335.89 with prices increased on the 17th , 18th and 19th while on the 15th and 16th you could travel for €9.99 and €24.99 without taxes and charges respectively”.

“If you wish to travel with Are Lingus you cannot do so from Shannon Airport and on top of the cost of travelling to Dublin Airport it would cost you anything up to €400 to fly out from there.”

“Irish Soccer Supporters have received many plaudits for their colour and support of the Irish team the world over and it is absolutely disgraceful that our own Irish Airlines are taking advantage of this.”

“Ireland’s world cup qualifier games with France are a much needed boost for this country and it could be a major boost to passenger numbers through Shannon Airport from the 17th to 19th November. Irish Soccer supporters who have followed their team through thick and think should not be ripped off in this fashion by our own Irish Airlines.

“While you expect some increase in the price, these hikes are exorbitant.”
