Breen assured of Corofin Post Office Future

July 2nd, 2012 - Pat Breen

Clare T.D. and Chairman of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade Pat Breen has today (Monday) being assured by An Post Executives that they will continue to maintain a Post Office in Corofin.

“Immediately upon hearing the news today that customers were being advised that the Post Office in Corofin was closing, I contacted senior executives in An Post to express my concern at developments.

“I was assured that they are committed to maintaining a Post Office in Corofin and that while their current local arrangement has come to an end that they will be advertising immediately seeking expressions of interest in an agency contract in order that the Post Office can be re-opened.”

“I questioned what arrangements they were putting in place to accommodate the people of Corofin in the interim, particularly given that Children Allowance payments are due to be made tomorrow. They assured me that they would put arrangements in place to facilitate people to pick up their children allowance tomorrow; however, all other Social Welfare Benefits usually paid at Corofin will now be paid at Kilfenora Post Office from Wednesday, 4th July 2012.”

“I have been advised that when a Contract for a Postal Agency is advertised it usually takes 3 months before the tendering process and granting of agency is finalised and I have asked that they advertise for a new contractor immediately so that the impact on their customers in the Corofin area is minimised.”
