Breen welcomes appointment of Airport CEO

May 22nd, 2013 - Pat Breen

Clare T.D. and Chairman of the Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade Pat Breen has today (Tuesday) welcomed the appointment of Neil Pakey as Chief Executive of the Shannon Airport Authority plc.
“Neil Pakey’s appointment at this critical juncture bodes very well for the development of Shannon Airport given the vast aviation experience which Mr Pakey brings with him to the role.

Over the past 30 years Mr Pakey has been at the forefront of transforming Airports under his leadership. As Managing Director of Liverpool John Lennon Airport, passenger numbers grew from less than 1 million a year to 5.5 million passengers annually, while as CEO of Peel Airports Limited, he managed to increase turnover for the Group to £Stg 50 million.

As CEO of the New Airport Authority, Mr Pakey will now have the task of overseeing the redevelopment of Shannon Airport. We are very fortunate to have secured the services of the calibre of Mr Pakey to lead Shannon Airport at this time and I wish him well in his position.

Neil Pakey now joins Rose Hynes as Chairperson and a strong Board and Management Team which is now in place at the Airport. Tom Coughlan, County Manager, Clare County Council and Tony Brazil, Limerick Travel Agent complete the Board Membership and both appointees bring extensive experience and knowledge of Regional Development and Tourism which will be a real asset to the new Authority.

As Shannon Airport embarks on a new Chapter in its Aviation History, it now has a strong management and Board Team in place who join a dedicated and loyal workforce and who together have the energy, enthusiasm and experience to re-establish Shannon Airport as the engine for economic growth in the Mid-West Region.”
