Breen welcomes publication of Pre Clearance Legislation.

June 9th, 2009 - Pat Breen

Fine Gael’s Deputy Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs and Clare T.D. Pat Breen has today welcomed the publication of the Pre Clearance Bill 2009. This legislation will give effect to the provision of full US Pre Clearance Facilities at Shannon and it is scheduled to put before the Seanad this afternoon.

“I welcome the publication of the legislation finally as there is an urgency in finalising this legislation to ensure that the facility at Shannon is up and running by the 1st July.”

“Shannon has always been at the forefront of innovation and at various critical times in its history it has shown the potential to develop new ideas and create new opportunities for this Region. This will be another first for Shannon, however it is vitally important now that the Minister for Transport and Marine Noel Dempsey and his Government make sure that all the necessary resources are put in place to make sure that Shannon Airport can maximise the benefits for development.”

“A marketing fund must be ring fenced so that this unique facility is marketed throughout the World. While Scheduled US Traffic has been hit by the global recession and could face further challenges it is hugely important that a targeted campaign is put in place to develop the General Aviation side of the business. The potential for growth is enormous and the Airports Corporate Jet Business could be set for a major take-off boost, but a clear commitment of support must be forthcoming from Government.”

“I will be making these points to the Minister when the legislation comes before the Dail.”
