€270,000 in funding allocated for flood prevention measures in Ballyvaughan – BREEN

October 7th, 2011 - Pat Breen

Chairman of the Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs & Trade Pat Breen has welcomed the news that €270,000 in funding has been allocated by the Minister of State at the Department of Finance with the special responsibility for the OPW Brian Hayes T.D.

Commenting on the news Deputy Breen said that “this is welcome news for the people of Ballyvaughan. Severe flooding was experienced on the outskirts of Ballyvaughan during the winter of 2009 and the works proposed will help to alleviate flooding on affected roads. The works involve the laying of a pipe from the Tour Lough to the Sea.”

“This funding is allocated to Clare County Council under the Minor Flood Works Scheme and represents 90% of the monies sought by the Council so it is a sizable investment in reducing future flood risks in Ballyvaughan.”

“This funding allocation confirms this Government’s support for the implementation of flood prevention measures even in these tightening budgetary times.”
