€84,000 in funding provided for two Clare day care centres – Breen

December 6th, 2013 - Pat Breen

Fine Gael Clare TD and Chairman of the Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade, Pat Breen, has this evening (Thursday) welcomed the news that two day care centres in Clare are to benefit from €84,000 in funding which has been sanctioned by the Department of Health.

A total of €42,000 has been provided to fund the purchase of an 18-20 seater wheelchair accessible bus for Carrigoran Nursing Home and Day Care Centre in Newmarket on Fergus, while another €42,000 has been provided towards the cost of constructing a purpose build dementia day care wing in Clarecastle.

“Earlier this year I was very pleased to support Carrigoran House in securing funding to develop their new day and education centre. The state-of-the-art facility is now providing day care services to the greater Shannon Region, including Newmarket on Fergus, Sixmilebridge, Cratloe, Bunratty and Shannon town.

“The allocation of this funding will allow Carrigoran House to purchase a wheelchair accessible bus to support the transportation of older people from outlying areas. The funding for Clarecastle is also very welcome given the valuable services that the new dementia day care wing is providing.

“Day care centres make a huge difference to the lives of local elderly people, by providing day support, meaningful activities and personal care. They help older people to live in dignity and independence in their own homes for as long as is possible and they are making a valuable contribution to our communities.

“I am delighted that this funding is being provided for these projects as it will assist both centres to develop the services they are providing even further.”
