April 17th, 2013 - Pat Breen

Clare T.D. and Chairman of the Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs Pat Breen T.D. has today (Wednesday) welcomed the allocation of €91,500 grant aid under the programme for the Fishery Harbours and Coastal Infrastructure Development Programme 2013 for five projects in County Clare which was announced today by the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Simon Coveney T.D.

The projects to benefit in County Clare are in Ballyvaughan and Liscannor in North Clare with projects in Carrigaholt, Cappagh-Kilrush and Kilbaha benefitting in West Clare. €37,500 has been allocated for the design and repair of the pier wall in Ballyvaughan and €11,250 towards the completion of remediation work to the existing pier walls in Liscannor. €22,500 has been allocated to Carrigaholt towards the construction of a hand rail to pier access, harbour wall and upgrade of visitor moorings, with €11,250 allocated for repairs to the sea wall at Cappagh in Kilrush and a further €9,000 allocated for repairs to the harbour capping stones in Kilbaha.

“We have wonderful amenities in our Coastal areas and it important that we look after them and protect them. Safety is of paramount importance and this funding will go along way in making the seafronts safer for visitors in these coastal areas and investment in these works is extremely important in these areas. Indeed, there are a number of other areas where coastal erosion is a problem and I will be continuing to pursue funding for these areas.

This funding provided will be 75% of the total approved project cost for the year or 75% of the qualifying expenditure for the year if this is less than the approved project costs. In total, €122,000 is being spent on the projects. The works must be completed during this year and all of the monies expended by Clare County Council by November 2013.
