End of an Era as Local Agriculture office closes it’s Doors – BREEN

April 15th, 2010 - Pat Breen

Fine Gael’s Deputy Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs and Clare T.D. Pat Breen has described the closure of the Department of Agriculture on the Kilrush Road in Ennis as an “end of an era for Clare Farmers. Deputy Breen said that the Local Office provided a very valuable and convenient service to Clare Farmers and he has paid tribute to the staff in the office for their dedicated service down through the years. However, he has expressed his disappointment that Minister Killeen in his last official days in the Department of Agriculture did not have this decision reversed, adding that “County Clare is now the only county in Munster which will not have this local service

“It as end of era for Clare farmers as the doors of the Agriculture Office on the Kilrush Road here in Ennis closes on this Friday. The local office provided a very valuable and convenient service for Clare Farmers and it was very convenient for farmers who lost cards or tags for example they could just drop into the office when they were in Ennis on Mart day. It will now be very inconvenient for farmers especially in West and North Clare who will have to travel to Limerick to do their business and the reality is that the location of the Limerick office is hard enough to find at the best of times and it is located at the far side of the city.

“I would like to thank and acknowledge the staff in the office for the service they provided for Clare farmers down through the years.”
