Ennis to receive Fibre Broadband Service from the 20th May 2013 – Breen.

May 16th, 2013 - Pat Breen

Clare T.D. and Chairman of the Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs Pat Breen has welcomed the news that Ennis is set to receive fibre broadband services from the 20th May as part of Eircom’s ‘Network for a Nation’ Programme.

Eircom’s network for the Nation programme will see €1.5billion invested in Ireland’s broadband infrastructure over the next five years.

“The Fibre broadband network has already reached over 230,000 premises with plans to complete 650,000 premises by the end of the year with 1.2 million homes and businesses across the 26 Counties to be completed by June 2015.

Phase one of the commercial roll-out of fibre commences on May 20th and I am pleased that Ennis has been included in phase one. This means that businesses in Ennis will have access to speeds of up to 70mb per second, increasing to 100mn per second within twelve months. Eircom have also confirmed that other Clare Towns including, Kilrush, Killaloe, Shannon Town and Sixmilebridge have been included in subsequent phases of eircom’s fibre rollout

“This is good news for Ennis and for the towns of Kilrush, Shannon, Killaloe and Sixmilebridge. It means our businesses will be able to compete on a level playing field with those in the cities and the availability of fibre cable means makes us more attractive for investment. I look forward of the continued roll out of such high speed broadband across the county” concluded Deputy Breen.
