Family Resource Centres are the beacon of lights in their communities – BREEN

July 21st, 2010 - Pat Breen

fsa-7Speaking following the launch in Dublin of the Family Resource Centres report detailing their work throughout Ireland in 2009, four of which are located in County Clare, in Kilrush, Ennistymon, Shannon and Killaloe, Fine Gael’s Deputy Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs and Clare T.D. Pat Breen said that “these centres are the beacon of lights in their communities” and that they are “a perfect example of what people can do for themselves provided that they are given the necessary support”.

“I am very familiar and I am hugely impressed by the work of the family resource centres and the valuable support which they provide in their communities. The success of the FRC’s is down to the fact that it is communities helping themselves. They provide a range of services to people whether it is education and training, counselling and support, providing information, working with the disadvantaged and working with local voluntary Groups.”

“These centres are in investment in our future and they deliver a huge return to the taxpayer both financially and socially and they are a lifeline in their communities and I hope that their role in battling against social exclusion will continue to be recognised.”
