Foreign Affairs Committee to meet ‘Stop Climate Chaos’ group

November 17th, 2015 - Pat Breen

The Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade will convene tomorrow to discuss climate change in relation to the 21st Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC, Paris.

The meeting will take place tomorrow, Wednesday 18th November in Committee Room 1 at 9.30am.

The twenty-first session of the Conference of the Parties (COP) and the eleventh session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP) will take place from 30 November to 11 December 2015, in Paris, France.

Representatives from ‘Stop Climate Chaos’ will appear before the Committee to brief them on their concerns regarding the ongoing efforts to finalise a global agreement on climate change.

Committee Chair, Pat Breen TD, says: “Major climate change negotiations are about to begin at which nations will set out their vision for a new international climate change agreement. The EU has defined their contribution as a binding, economy-wide, domestic greenhouse gas emissions reduction target of at least 40% by 2030.”

“Members of the Joint Committee will discuss this plan with representatives from the ‘Stop Climate Chaos’ group tomorrow. The Members are keen to hear their views on the proposed emissions reduction targets, as well as the broader issue of climate change and the challenges it presents us with.”
