Foreign Affairs Committee to meet Nigerian Ambassador to Ireland

May 27th, 2014 - Pat Breen

Oireachtas Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade tomorrow meets with the Ambassador of Nigeria to Ireland Felix Yusufu Pwol to consider the current situation in Nigeria.

The meeting is likely to consider the impact of the Boko Haram insurgency on the country and, particularly, the recent kidnapping of over 300 schoolgirls by the terrorist group.

Chairman of the Committee Pat Breen TD says: “The reprehensible actions of Boko Haram in kidnapping of over 300 schoolgirls in Nigeria are to be condemned in the strongest possible terms. The meeting with Ambassador Pwol will focus on the steps being taken by the Nigerian Government to bring about the safe release of the hostages. We will also be interested in pursuing what responses from the international community might be most appropriate to the five-year long Boko Haram uprising in the Northeastern part of the country.”
The meeting takes place tomorrow Wednesday 28 May at 2:30 pm in Committee Room 1, LH 2000.
