Grants for Septic Tank Maintenance on the way – BREEN.

December 17th, 2012 - Pat Breen

Clare T.D. and Chairman of the Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade Pat Breen said today (Monday) that welcomed the news that the Environment Minister Phil Hogan will announce a grant for septic tank maintenance which will assist septic owners who discover that desludging is not sufficient to alleviate their problems.
“Following the introduction of regulations for septic tanks owners, the Environment Minister promised that he would consider a system of grants. Minister Hogan has now informed me that septic tank owners who registered before the 1st February last and whose income is less than €50,000, who find that desludging is not sufficient to alleviate the problems with their tanks will be able to apply for a grant to 75% of the cost of resolving the problem to a maximum of €4,000.”
“Not every septic tank is inspected and the majority of problems can be resolved by desludging. However, where desludging does not work and other maintenance work needs to be carried out, property owners will be able to apply for this grant. From previous experience in Cavan, when over 3,000 tanks were inspected, the majority of property owners did not have to face large bills.”
“This Grant is very welcome and it will provide much relief for householders and farmers who have septic tanks.”
