Independent Study on the feasibility of establishing a humanitarian hub at Shannon Airport to be discussed at the Foreign Affairs & Trade Committee – BREEN

Chairman of the Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs & Trade Pat Breen T.D. has welcomed the news that the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade has sought tenders to undertake a feasibility study on the viability of establishing a humanitarian hub at Shannon Airport. Deputy Breen has been in regular communication with the Minister of State with responsibility for Irish Aid Jan O’Sullivan T.D. in relation to this project and they have agreed that when this Independent Study is finalised, that Minister O’Sullivan will address a Special Meeting of the Foreign Affairs & Trade Committee to discuss the project.

“Shannon Airport has the potential to be a global logistics hub for disaster aid. The Programme for Government supports the setting up a humanitarian centre at Shannon and there is the additional benefit in that the Irish Aid offices are located in Limerick.”
