Chairman of the Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs & Trade Pat Breen has today (Wednesday) welcomed the allocation of €54,150 to Kilkee Waterworld under the Green Swimming Pool Initiative Scheme.

The Allocation was announced this morning by the Minister for Tourism and Sport Michael Ring.

“I am delighted that Kilkee Swimming Pool has been allocated €54,150 as I have been campaigning extensively on their behalf for quite some time now. It is good news for people living and visiting Kilkee and for people living in neighbouring areas around West Clare who avail of the facilities which the Kilkee Waterworld facility provides. It is a top class facility encompassing a Bouncy Castle, Internet Café, Bubble Pool, Snack Bar and 61m Slide.”

“The grant allocated to Kilkee today forms part of the new €5.3 million worth of grants allocated by Minister Ring to improve access for people with disabilities at 30 Swimming Pools nationwide along with the green swimming pool initiative to make pools more energy efficient and less reliant on State support.”

“The funding allocated will be used for a range of purposes depending on the pool, including installing new ramps, widening doorways to allow wheelchair access, fitting hoists and providing purpose-built changing facilities.”

“The funding allocated today will have to spent by year’s end and it will of course also help to sustain jobs at the work stage of the project.”
