Meeting with Health Minister

April 17th, 2008 - Pat Breen

MINISTER FOR HEALTH AND CHILDREN MARY HARNEY T.D. ACCEDES TO DEPUTY BREENS REQUEST FOR A MEETING WITH FOUR CLARE OIREACHTAS MEMBERS.

On the 25th March 2008, Deputy Pat Breen wrote to the Minister for Health and Children Mary Harney T.D. requesting a Meeting with her to which all Four Oireachtas Members were to be invited to discuss the allocation of funding for Ennis General Hospital Development Project.

Deputy Breen’s request came following news that the capital funding which had been provided for in the HSE National Capital Development Plan was not included in the 2008 plan and that in fact this funding was to be diverted to a project on the Eastern side of the Country. He also highlighted the annoucement on the new protocol to be introduced by the HSE which will see ambulance crews bypass Ennis Hospital with all major truama cases. He voiced his concern at the fact that a Cat scanner was still not in place at the Hospital and that there was uncertaintly about retaining 24 Hr A&E.

On the 28th March, Deputy Breen received an acknowledgement from the Ministers Office.

Today, Minister Harney has acceded to Deputy Breen’s request for a Meeting and she has confirmed that this Meeting will take place:

Thursday 15th May 2008 at 11.30am in Leinster House.

As well as the above issues, Deputy Breen will also be raising the findings of the recent HSE report in to the incidents of C-Difficile at Ennis General Hospital.
