North Clare Processing Company awarded over €50,000 in grant aid – BREEN

Clare T.D. and Chairman of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade Pat Breen T.D. has welcomed the news €50,232.60 in funding has been grant-aided to the Burren Smokehouse Ltd, in North Clare. The Burren Smokeshouse is one of 18 seafood processing companies which have been granted aid under the 2015 Seafood Processing Business Investment Scheme.

This funding forms part of €2.7 million in grant-aid to 18 seafood processing companies under the 2015 Seafood Processing Business Investment Scheme. The supported projects are projected to deliver 145 Jobs and €41 million in additional sales by 2017. The grants are co-funded by the Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine and the European Fisheries Fund under the Seafood Development Programme.

“I was very pleased that this funding is being provided to the Burren Smokehouse. The Burren Smokehouse is a family run business which is making a very valuable contribution to the local economy in North Clare both in terms of providing employment and through their sourcing of local produce. The Business employs 15 people and their staffing numbers are supplemented during the summer season and when their production area is busy especially during the pre-Christmas rush.

Given the high quality product which the Burren House produces, they have established a strong reputation in our National and International Markets. They are also very involved in promoting Eco Tourism and every year they welcome over 30,000 visitors to their Visitor Centre which they opened in 1995.
