Over £10 million in Disadvantaged Area Scheme Payments on the way to Clare Farmers – BREEN

Chairman of the Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs and Clare T.D. Pat Breen has welcomed the news today that the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Simon Coveney, TD, has announced the commencement of payments to farmers under the 2011 Disadvantaged Areas Scheme.

“In total these payments are worth in the region of €220 million are payable to in excess of 100,000 farmers.”

“Here in Clare, 6,076 farmers applied under the Scheme, and 4,604 will now begin receiving payments, totalling €10,935,212.40.” Deputy Breen said a significant amount of farmers would begin receiving their payments within the next number of days, but that it will take a least one week for all farmers to receive the payment.”

“In relation to those who will have applied and who have not being paid, these farmers can submit appropriate evident to the Agriculture Department’s office in Portlaoise, following which their payments will then be released and I would urge these farmers to submit their documentation as soon as possible.”
