July 3rd, 2015 - Pat Breen

Clare T.D. and Chair of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade Pat Breen has welcomed the news that a planning application has been lodged with Clare County Council for the construction of a new Primary School in Sixmilebridge.

“The news that the planning application has been lodged is another step forward in achieving this significant investment in Sixmilebridge. And I commend the Board of Management, Teachers and Parents of St Finnachtas National School for their hard work in bringing this project to this important milestone”.

The project is to build a new 2-story Primary School building comprising of 24 no classrooms, Special Needs Unit, GP rooms, resource rooms and administration area. Site development works include new perimeter fencing and boundary walls, 3 no ball courts, external play areas, car parking and associated works.

“Sixmilebridge is one of the fastest growing towns in the County with its population doubling from since 2006 (CSO Census Figures). This increase in population has been reflected in the School’s enrolment figures which have grown by 55% since 2008. The projected enrolment figures for September 2015 is 534 with 42 staff members including 18 Mainstream teachers employed at the School and 60% of the schools population is accommodated in temporary accommodation.

This development is a very important step in the provision of a state of the art Primary School in Sixmilebridge and I will be continuing to work closing with the Board of Management, parents, local Councillor John Crowe and the wider community to ensure that this is the case.”
