Up to 60 new social housing units for Shannon – Breen

July 21st, 2016 - Pat Breen

Fine Gael Clare Minister Pat Breen, has said that up to 60 new social housing units are to be built in Shannon as part of the Government’s new housing action plan.
“The Minister for Housing, Simon Coveney, has confirmed to me that between 50 and 60 new social housing units are to be delivered for Shannon East through public private partnership.

“This is a really positive development for Clare people and families on the social housing list. The announcement comes as part of the Government’s comprehensive housing action plan, called ‘Rebuilding Ireland – an Action Plan for Housing and Homelessness’. The plan delivers on a key commitment in the Programme for Government to prioritise solving the problem of the housing shortage that arose after the economic bust.

“The Minister has now approved site locations for over 450 new social housing units, worth €100 million nationally, and I am delighted that Shannon East is one of these locations. The funding is part of a programme of investment totalling €300 million in social housing through the public private partnership model. The programme will deliver 1,500 social housing units nationally.

“Fine Gael in Government is ensuring that our economic recovery benefits those who need it most, and I can think of no better case than people in need of housing. Everyone has the right to a place to call home. These new social housing units will give a lot of Clare people a great new start in life and a place to call their own.”
